Stuffing Box Repacking

Over time, the packing material wears out and does not seal properly. When this happens, the operators must replace the packing.

Step 1: Get the valve ready for packing change

In some case you will need to secure the valve in a vise. Place the valve ends between the vise jaws. Use protective material between the vise jaws and valve ends. Open the valve to full open position. Remove the handwheel if necessary.

Step 2: Get access to the stuffing box.

Remove the gland bolts, gland flange and the packing gland.
