Formation of Pollutants

Other than the reactions we have already discussed, to a smaller extent some other reactions also take place. Some of these additional reactions create pollutants.

Nitrogen reacts with oxygen to create few different types of oxides which are collectively known as NOx gases. These NOx gases, react with moisture to form highly corrosive nitric acid.

Sulfur reacts with oxygen to form oxides of sulfur (collectively known as SOx gases). These gases combine with moisture to form sulfuric acid which is highly corrosive.
