Introduction to a Real Boiler System - continued.

C. This section illustrates the flue gas duct, designed to remove the flue gas from the furnace regions. In region C, flue gas flows from left to right.

D. This section represents an air heater. In this section, flue gas is used to pre-heat the combustion air.

E. Forced draft fan. This fan is used to provide the furnace with combustion air. The fan accepts ambient air and pushes it through the air heater onward to the furnace cavity.

F. Dry scrubber. Flue gas is passed through a dry scrubber to remove pollutants.

G. This region represents a baghouse. In the baghouse, entrained particulate matter (ash, soot, etc) is removed from the flue gas.

H. Induced Draft Fan. This fan is interposed in the flue gas ducting. It sucks flue gas from the furnace side and forces it into the stack, located at the right.

J. Stack. A tall chimney designed to create draft as well as disperse the flue gas at a high elevation.
