Lockout equipment to provide adequate safety

Locks used in the locking out process must meet certain criteria:

a. Locks may be of key-type or number-combination type.

b. The lock must be durable to withstand industrial work environment. The lock material and mechanism must be able to withstand the expected ambient conditions such as temperature, dust, corrosive fumes, etc.

c. The lock must be strong and substantial. Small flimsy locks are not allowed for this service. Anything that can be easily twisted off is not allowed. The locks should be strong enough to discourage illegal removal. Heavy force or bolt cutters would be necessary to remove them.
