Double Ported Valves

The figure shown here, illustrates a double ported globe valve. These valves are designed for automatic flow control applications. The advantages of using such valves are:

a. This design requires relatively less force to move the valve plug, or keep it positioned at one location.

b. The fluid flows through two openings, therefore you can rapidly move from a low flow situation to a high flow situation.

Notice a unique feature in such valves. The valve is provided with a blind flange at the bottom. This flange acts like a drain plug. The flange can be removed to clean the valve internals, without bothering to removing the top assemblies.

In practice such valves are not very common due to cost considerations.
