Composite Disc Globe Valve
The figure shown here illustrates a Composite Disc Globe Valve.
This design is also equipped with a special disc design. In this design, the valve body and stem are made of iron or bronze, but the material for the disc is some soft material.
Such valves, with properly rated discs, can be used in steam, water or oil service. This design cannot be used in high temperature or high pressure applications.
The flat face of the disc fits against a raised crown in the valve body – which creates a tight seal. This design is especially good for service where the fluid is likely to carry light grit or sand. If sand enters the valve, it is trapped in the disc. As the valve is opened and closed, it self-cleans.
This design cannot be used for tight throttling applications. The term “tight throttling application” indicates an application where you need to keep the valve slightly opened for long periods of time. In such cases the disc will start to erode.
