Notes and Cautions

i. You do not need to prime pumps which are designed with suction head. But you need to bleed off the air.

ii. Smaller pumps can be started with discharge valve open. In some cases, your supervisor may decide not to allow starting up of pumps with discharge valve closed.

iii. This procedure is designed for centrifugal pumps only. For multistage centrifugal pumps and positive displacement pumps, use the approved procedures provided to you by your supervisor.

iv. This course material addresses technical issues in a general manner. At your place of work you must ask for and use procedures specifically authorized for that location and application.
