Vertical Centrifugal Pumps

The figure provided here illustrates a vertical mounted centrifugal pump.

The pump impeller is connected to the motor by a long vertical shaft. The shaft is housed inside the vertical pipe shown on the right side of the illustration. The vertical pipe shown on the left hand side is the discharge pipe.

In many installations the lower part of the assembly (including the pump itself) is submerged in the water.
