This design is characterized by an independent pump shaft. The pump shaft and the pump bearings are independent of the motor shaft and the motor bearings. The motor shaft and the pump shaft are connected by a coupling. In the illustration, the bearing housing is indicated by "A" and the support under the bearing housing is indicated by "B."

The pumps may be mounted horizontally or vertically. The orientation of the pump’s shaft determines if the pump is mounted horizontally or vertically.
