Diaphragm Pumps

A diaphragm pump is a type of positive displacement pump. Key elements of such pumps are:

Diaphragm

This diaphragm is made of tough flexible material. It moves to and fro. Movement toward left side is called the Suction Stroke, and movement toward the other side is called the Discharge Stroke.

Diaphragm Cavity

This cavity provides support to the diaphragm and restricts its movement.

Piston

The piston is connected to the diaphragm and moves to and fro. Movement of the piston causes the diaphragm to move.

Suction and Discharge Ports

Each of these ports is provided with a sealing ball. Action of these balls is demonstrated in the animation provided in the next section.
