Rotary Pumps

A rotary pump consists of a stationary pump housing and one or more rotating elements.

The rotating elements, as they rotate, trap some liquid on the suction side and move it to the discharge side. This movement is also "positive" by design - the liquid is physically moved.

Click on the START button to see an animation for a rotary pump. Such a pump is also called a "gear pump".

Notice that as the gears move, they trap some liquid between the gear teeth and the pump housing. This trapped liquid is moved from the suction side to the discharge side.

Rotary pumps are available in many designs.
