Air Heaters - Continued.

“B” shows the tubesheet, which is used to hold the tubes in place.

“C” shows the hot end of the air heater.

“D” shows the tubes through which the flue gas flows.

“E” shows the flow separating plate.

“F” is indicating a bypass damper. This damper can be opened to some extent to allow the cold combustion air to bypass the first path. This damper is used to control the temperature of the combustion air leaving the air heater. If this damper is opened, it allows some of the combustion air to bypass the first pass, therefore overall heat transfer will be reduced and the temperature of the combustion air leaving the air heater will reduce.

“K” indicates a part of the support structure.

“J” indicates the hopper used to collect ash. As the flue gas makes a sharp turn, some of its entrained ash drops off and falls into the hopper.
