Vertical Type Tubular Air Heater
The figure provided here illustrates a vertical type tubular air heater. Notice the following:
Hot flue gas enters the tube bundle as indicated by “A”. It flows through a bank of tubes and leaves at the other end “H”.
Combustion air, to be heated, enters at “G”, and flows over the tube bundle, reaches the other end, reverses its path, and flows over the tubes again and reaches the other end, reverses its path for the second time and goes over the tube bundles again and leaves the air heater at “L”. As the combustion air makes three passes, it gets heated by the hot tubes.
