b. Tags must be made of durable material. Sometimes tags need to stay in place for weeks in wet and grimy conditions. The tag material should be able to easily withstand the expected ambient conditions.
c. Tags must be strong so that it is not easy remove them. The tag material should be such that it would require a considerable force or bolt cutters to remove them.
d. A tag used for lockout/tagout must state the name of the authorized person who installed it.
e. Information on the tag must be written in a clear and legible manner. Simple lead pencils should not be used for this purpose, because penciled writing easily gets smudged.
f. Tags used for lockout/tagout must follow some standardization logic. It should be easy for all area workers to easily identify a lockout/tagout tag.
