Introduction
Welcome to Basic Lockout-Tagout
In this section, before formal introduction to the course, we (Houston Industrial Training Institute - HITI) need to make you aware of a few important pieces of information.
Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Credit
We test our courses with pilot studies - using sample students - as well as our judgment to estimate the time needed by an average student to complete all of the necessary requirements - coursework as well as the post-learning tests. In general our prospective students may be divided into two categories:
The first type consists of students who are somewhat familiar with the subject matter and intend to participate in this module for Continuing Education purposes. The second type of students have no or little knowledge about the subject matter and are taking this module as a part of a larger course, which includes many other modules. The second type of students are usually people who are seeking entry-level positions.
The completion time estimation process does not include break time - and is limited to the actual time used in interacting with the learning materials and completion of the required test. We realize that you, depending on your background and learning habits, may take a different amount of time to complete the course. However, we standardize the time-to-complete as noted below; that means you will earn credit as noted hereunder. We calculate the CEUs by dividing the standardized completion time by ten (10.) The calculated earnable CEUs are also noted below. This method for determination of the CEUs is consistent with requirements of the ANSI/IACET 2013 Standard for CE/T.
Module Taken As a Part of a Larger Course
Standardized Time-to-Complete in Hours: 10
Awardable Professional Development Hours (PDHs): 10
Awardable CEUs: 1.0
Disclosure of Third Party Interests
During the course of this learning event, HITI does not allow presentation of products owned by the instructor or any other third party. Consequently no compensation is obtained from or paid to any third party. However, if any third party interests are involved, a full disclosure shall be made to the students BEFORE the learning event commences.
Student Privacy, Records and Release of Information
Key features of steps taken to ensure confidentiality and security of student data, consistent with our policies, are:
- Student records are maintained for at least ten years
- HITI shall not disclose students' personal information to any third party
- On successful completion of the course, HITI shall issue a completion certificate (within five business days) to the student stating key student information, course name and the awarded PDHs and CEUs. For the purposes of this paragraph, the term "course" indicates this module, completion of which results in a certificate. However, when this module is taken as a part of a larger course, the course completion implies completion of all modules associated with the course.
- The completion certificates shall be issued to a third party only if a student makes an emailed request for such a release to the registrar giving his/her log-in credentials and the intended recepient's full name and email address.
