Pressure Experiments

To improve your understanding about some of the material already discussed, we will conduct some experiments. In the first experiment, we will use the equipment shown above.

Experiment 1

Before we begin the experiment, let's try to understand the equipment/system provided here.

Compressed Air Tank

The illustration shows a tank which is used to store compressed air. The tank is equipped with the following devices:

Pressure Gauge G1: This pressure gauge reads the tank pressure in terms of "psig".

Pressure Gauge G2: This pressure gauge reads the tank pressure in terms of "psia".

PSV: Pressure Safety Valve. This valve prevents against dangerous high pressure conditions. If the tank pressure exceeds a pre-set safe limit, this valve opens up and allows the pressurized air to escape to the atmosphere. Under normal circumstances this valve is closed.

Notes for SAMPLE: To pressurize the tank, click on the vent to close it, click on V1 to open it, and then click on the compressor to start it.
