Conventional Disc Globe Design

The figure provided here illustrates the conventional design.

The valve body is provided with a screwed-in seat. In this design the area of contact between the disc and the seat is rather small – this is one aspect which differentiates it from the other designs. This design can be used for ordinary purposes, where the service conditions are not too harsh. Such a design is not suitable for control of high velocity fluids.

The conventional disc design is good enough for service where the fluid may carry some suspended matter. Good examples for such service are ordinary wastewater, oil and gas. The disc and seat assembly is designed to self-clean to some degree.
