Suction Head Configuration

The figure shown here demonstrates the suction head configuration. Notice that the water level on the suction side is above the center line of the pump. This means that the water on the suction side is producing some pressure (static pressure) on the suction side.

The distance “A” is known as the static suction head, and “B” is known as the static discharge head. Total head for the pump is given by “B-A ”.
