Alternatively, a back-pressure turbine can be used, if conditions make it preferable. Of course with either the condensing or the back pressure turbine extraction can be applied, if needed.
In this context, the term “extraction” refers to steam which is drawn midway through the steam turbine stages.
Turbines can be designed to provide one or more extraction levels. The pressure of the extraction steam is less than the inlet pressure, but more than the back-end pressure.
