AUXILIARY EQUIPMENT

In this section we will discuss some common auxiliary equipment used in compressed air systems.

Intake Filters

Air filters are provided on compressor intakes to prevent atmospheric dust from entering the cylinders. Atmospheric dust and particulate matter causes scoring and excessive wear on the cylinder surfaces. Many air compressors use intake filters that are similar to those used in domestic air conditioning units. Some use oil-based filters.

Two common types of oil-based air intake filters are:

a. Viscous Impingement

b. Oil bath
