Special Grease Related Considerations

A considerable number of electric motors fail due to over-greasing. DO NOT use a grease gun to grease an electric motor unless you have been trained to do so.

Do Not Try to Improve Lubrication in a Random fashion.

On many occasions well-intentioned operators end up damaging their equipment. There are many cases of damage caused by overcooling of the lubricating oil. Many believe that the cooler the oil the better it is. Not true. Lubricating oil provides best service when it is maintained within a specific temperature range.

Lubrication design is a function that is best handled by professional facilities engineers.

Ideas brought forward by the plant operators are very important in keeping the plant reliability at an optimum level. Therefore, if you have an idea, make sure you discuss it with your supervisor or an engineer before you implement it. By the same token, ideas generated by the process engineers are also of little value unless they include input from field operators.
