Batteries - continued

The illustration provided here shows another ways batteries can be connected.

This connection provides a little variation to the connections discussed earlier. Notice that, again, the batteries are installed in opposition to each other. Again, to simplify the diagram we can replace the upper connection with the one shown below. The equivalent battery in this case is an 8V battery. Notice the direction of the equivalent battery.
