Pulley Force Diagram - continued
c. The tension created by F1 is equal to F1, and it is identical throughout the rope’s length. This is a key item and you must understand and remember it: When we apply a force to a rope used with frictionless pulleys, the tension created in the rope is equal to the applied force. This piece of information plays a key role when we start to talk about multiple pulleys.
d. Using the above information we can say:
F2 = F1
Therefore: F1 = F2 = W
This means that the applied force is equal to weight being lifted.
